NEW YORK, Nov. 18 (UPI) — Carly Simon has finally revealed Warren Beatty (partially) inspired her song “You’re So Vain.”
The 70-year-old singer discussed the 1972 hit in an interview with People published Wednesday. Simon told The Washington Post in 1983 Beatty suspected the song was about him, and has dropped hints in the years since.
“I have confirmed that the second verse is Warren,” she disclosed. “Warren thinks the whole thing is about him!” Simon revealed the other verses refer to two additional men, but said she doesn’t know if she will ever name the pair.

“You’re So Vain” appears on the singer’s 1972 album No Secrets. Warren’s verse includes the lyrics, “You had me several years ago when I was still quite naive” and, “But you gave away the things you loved and one of them was me.”
Simon will detail more romantic dalliances and other aspects of her personal life and career in her memoir Boys in the Trees, which is scheduled for release Nov. 24. The singer’s latest studio album, Never Been Gone, debuted in October 2009.
