Aug. 2 (UPI) — Late actress Carrie Fisher will have an “amazing” send-off in “Star Wars: The Last Jedi,” according to star John Boyega.

The 25-year-old British actor said in an interview with “Popcorn with Peter Travers” for ABC News that the film will say a proper farewell to Fisher’s character, Princess Leia.

The video could not be loaded, either because the server or network failed or because the format is not supported.

“We have many scenes in this one coming up,” Boyega said of the movie. “We worked together closely. [It was] amazing.”

“It sends her off in a very amazing, amazing way,” he added. “And she’s still kept alive in this franchise. That’s the beauty of it — she lives forever in a sense.”

Fisher, who first played Leia in the 1977 movie Star Wars, was to appear in “The Last Jedi and Star Wars: Episode IX.” She completed her scenes for “The Last Jedi” before her death in December, but will not appear in “Episode IX.”

“We finished everything in [‘Star Wars: The Last Jedi’] and Carrie is absolutely phenomenal in the movie,” Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy told ABC News in April.

“Unfortunately … we were well underway in Episode IX in our thoughts, [but] we had not written the script yet. But we’ve regrouped, we started over again in January. Sadly, Carrie will not be in ‘[Episode] IX.'”

Fisher’s death at age 60 on Dec. 27 was followed by mom Debbie Reynolds‘ death the next day. Fisher’s daughter, Billie Lourd, opened up in the September issue of Town & Country about the challenges of honoring the famous pair while forging her own path.

“I’ve always kind of lived in their shadows, and now is the first time in my life when I get to own my life and stand on my own. I love being my mother’s daughter, and it’s something I always will be, but now I get to be just Billie,” she said.

“Star Wars: The Last Jedi” opens in theaters Dec. 15.
