Exodus: Gods and Kings is in theaters on December 12, 2014. The director of ‘Gladiator’ and ‘Prometheus’ brings us a new epic adventure that has been told for thousands of years. This is the story of one man’s daring courage to take on the night of his brother’s empire.

Moses (Christian Bale) and Ramses (Joel Edgerton) were raised together as brothers. When Ramses becomes the Pharaoh, Moses becomes his most trusted adviser. Then Moses’ true heritage is revealed and he finds out that he is Hebrew thus making Ramses banish him to the desert and hopefully death. Yet Moses returns from exile and demands that Ramses let his people go. Ramses, the arrogant unmoved ruler that he is does not want to, leading to a battle of divine wills.

Some of the things that the two main characters had to say about Exodus are:

Christian Bale:Exodus - Gephardt Daily

“No matter how many movies you have done it never stops being so much bloody fun riding on horses and slashing through people while having some fights. Ultimately we are reaching out to people. None of it matters unless you are actually managing to reach out and touch people’s hearts and minds and make them feel something.”

Joel Edgerton:

“Filming the battles gives you a chance to play boys club and fashion yourself as the hero you always dreamed, you wished you were. While there are all of these battle scenes you need to remember about the detail of the relationships and the fact that there is actually a story behind the battles. In this film it is not just battle after battle, it is a battle of ethics, a battle in the uprising and the revolution that Moses starts.”

TONY TONSCANO’S review:

In Ridley Scott’s latest film based on the Biblical book of Exodus, Moses rises up against the Egyptian Pharaoh Ramses, setting 600,000 slaves on a monumental journey of escape from Egypt and its terrifying cycle of deadly plagues.

Starring “The Dark Knight’s” Christian Bale and Joel Edgerton, the film is well shot and offers up some stunning graphics work. The problem I have with the film is the producers have decided to re-write some of the bible for no real reason at all.

Gone from the story is Moses’ staff, an icon of the bible, substituted is an Egyptian sword which was gifted to Moses and Ramses from Ramses’ Pharaoh father.

Time seems to be inconsequential as well as the story jumps time… which I found a little distracting.

In the end “Exodus: Gods and Kings” is just an OK film with good special effects and acting.

But it is not the epic audiences are waiting for.
