FanX: In The Club With Anthony Michael Hall
We caught up with Anthony Michael Hall, an actor, film producer, and director who starred in several teen-oriented films of the 1980’s. Hall began his career in commercials and on stage as a child, and made his screen debut in 1980. His films with director-screenwriter John Hughes, beginning with the popular 1983 comedy National Lampoon’s Vacation and the coming of age comedy “Sixteen Candles,” shap
ed his early career. He is also known for “The Breakfast Club,” “Weird Science” and “Edward Scissorhands,” and appeared in the mega-hit “The Dark Knight.”
He said of John Hughes: “One of his gifts was that he was never precious with the script so he encouraged us to ad lib and he really let us all loose, he was a great guy to work for.
“He had such a voice, almost like a playwright. There was a sense of redemption at the end of his films, where all the characters wound up a little better off.”
