Comic actor Tim Conway dies at age 85

LOS ANGELES, May 14, 2019 (Gephardt Daily) — Emmy winning comic actor Tim Conway died Tuesday at age 85, his publicist has confirmed.

Conway — who was also a writer, director and comic — is best known for playing the inept Ensign Parker in “McHale’s Navy,” for costaring in “The Carol Burnett Show,” for starring in “Dorf” videos and for providing the voice of “SpongeBob SquarePants”‘s Barnacle Boy, sidekick of Mermaid Man, who was voiced by “McHale’s Navy” star Ernest Borgnine.

His television and film acting credits alone, as listed on the IMDb website, spans from 1963 to 2016, and number at least 124 appearances. His many film credits include “The Apple Dumpling Gang,” “The Private Eyes” and “Speed 2.”

Conway was born in in Willoughby, Ohio, a suburb of Cleveland, a Wikipedia articles says. After college at Bowling Green State University, where he majored in television and radio, he enlisted in the U.S. Army.

After that, Conway, born Thomas Daniel Conway, did local television and radio work until he was mentored by Rose Marie, an actress who rose to fame on “The Dick Van Dyke Show.” within about a year, he became a regular comedy-sketch player on “The Steve Allen Show,” and soon after landed “McHale’s Navy,” which ran 1962 through 1966, and led Conway to fame and a lifetime of series work and guest shots.

According to multiple media reports, Conway suffered in his final years from Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s diseases, and other illnesses.

Conway was father to six biological children and a step-daughter.
