LOS ANGELES, Sept. 28 (UPI) — Demi Lovato angered fans by suggesting Mattel should model a Barbie after her likeness Saturday.

Social media users slammed the 23-year-old singer for appearing to steal the spotlight from fellow Disney channel star Zendaya. The 19-year-old actress was presented with a doll modeled after her 2015 Academy Awards dress and dreadlocks hairstyle earlier that day.

“Hey @Barbie, what about a curvy doll or one with true to size measurements? I’ll model!! #raiseyourvoice #besuper,” Lovato wrote. The tweet was favorited thousands of times before the singer deleted the post.

Fans criticized the former Sonny with a Chance star for failing to congratulate Zendaya and taking away from the actress’ moment. “Demi Lovato could chosen ANY TIME to criticize Barbie on not having realistic body sizes. But she only does it in response to Zendaya’s doll,” one user wrote.

Zendaya’s Oscars look made headlines after Fashion Police host Giuliana Rancic joked the star’s hair looked like it smelled of “patchouli oil or weed.” Many interpreted the comment as racial, and Zendaya thanked Mattel for allowing her to help expand “the definition of beauty” Sunday.

Lovato will release her fifth studio album, Confident, on Oct. 16, and has a Robert Rodriguez-directed music video in the works for her single of the same name. Zendaya has starred as K.C. Cooper on Disney Channel sitcom K.C. Undercoversince January.
