Nov. 20 (UPI) — Bruno Mars was named Artist of the Year and Diana Ross accepted the Lifetime Achievement honor at Sunday’s American Music Awards show in Los Angeles.
Ross performed a medley of her hits and received a congratulations message from former President Barack Obama and his wife, Michelle. Ross’ daughter, Tracee Ellis Ross, hosted the gala, which aired live on ABC.
Keith Urban was also a big winner at the AMAs. He was voted Favorite Male Artist — Country and picked up the trophies for Favorite Album — for Ripcord and Favorite Song — Country for “Blue Ain’t Your Color.”
Imagine Dragons was deemed Favorite Duo or Group — Pop/Rock; Linkin Park was selected Favorite Artist — Alternative Rock; and Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee earned the Collaboration of the Year title for their hit song “Despacito.”
Other winners included Shawn Mendes for Favorite Artist — Adult Contemporary; The Chainsmokers for Favorite Artist — Electronic Dance Music; and DJ Khaled for Favorite Song — Rap/Hip-Hop for “I’m the One.”
