Disney pairs Lin-Manuel Miranda, Alan Menken for live action ‘Little Mermaid’ remake

LOS ANGELES, Aug. 17 (UPI) — Lin-Manuel Miranda and Alan Menken are coming together to pen the music for Disney’s live action remake of the 1989 animated classic “The Little Mermaid.

Miranda recently worked with Disney on the upcoming animated feature “Moana,” for which he wrote the music. He’s also set to star opposite Emily Blunt in the remake of “Mary Poppins.”

Menken wrote the music for the animated Mermaid, winning him two Oscars for his work.

Disney will have some “Little Mermaid” competition, with Working Title pairing with Universal to work on their own version with Chloe Grace Moretz in the lead role.

Disney has been working on several recent live action reboots of its classics, including “Cruella,” “Dumbo” and “Beauty and the Beast” starring Emma Watson which is set to premiere in March 2017.
