Disney World, Universal theme parks to close for Hurricane Irma

Sept. 9 (UPI) — Florida’s Walt Disney World and Universal theme parks have announced they will close due to the expected arrival of Hurricane Irma.

“In anticipation of inclement weather, Walt Disney World Parks and Disney Springs will be closed Sunday, Sept. 10 and Monday, Sept. 11,” the Disney World website announced.

Disney’s four parks — the Magic Kingdom, Animal Kingdom, Epcot and Disney’s Hollywood Studios — were open as scheduled Friday and are expected to close early Saturday.

“Due to Hurricane Irma, our destination will close at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 9. We will be fully closed on Sunday and Monday and we anticipate normal operating hours on Tuesday, Sept. 12,” Universal Orlando — which operates Islands of Adventure and Universal Studios — said on its website.
