RENNES, France, March 10 (UPI) — Publisher Ubisoft’s latest release under their Tom Clancy banner, the open-world shooter “The Division,” has broken the company’s day-one sales record.

Released on Tuesday, Ubisoft says that during its first 24 hours of availability, “The Division” has sold more copies than any other game in its 30-year history.

“The launch of ‘The Division’ is a tremendous achievement for Ubisoft, and demonstrates our unrivaled capacity to create fantastic new game brands and transform them into entertainment blockbusters,” said Ubisoft co-founder and CEO Yves Guillemot in an official statement.

“This is a momentous day for Ubisoft, but more importantly it marks the start of millions of players’ enduring engagement in ‘The Division”s game world, which we are confident they will love,” he continued.

The company also announced that the title gives Ubisoft three of the top four most successful new game brand launches in the history of the gaming industry.

Set in New York City, ‘The Division’ is an online, third-person military shooter where players attempt to bring order back to the city after it has fallen due to a deadly, worldwide virus outbreak. The game will continually expand over the coming year with free updates and paid expansion packs.
