NEW YORK, Dec. 11 (UPI) — Downton Abbey stars Hugh Bonneville, Michelle Dockery and Allen Leech delighted fans with their knack for accents Wednesday.
The English actors performed a scene from the popular ITV series using American accents on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.
“I think one of the things that I suspect makes the show so alluring and seem somewhat like a fairy tale to us in the United States is just how plummy all your accents are,” the late night host said.
The trio discussed Lord Grantham’s plans to develop the family estate before Leech strayed from the script and channeled Project Runway mentor Tim Gunn. “Hey, let’s just forget about this. Mary, who are you wearing?” the actor interjected.
Bonneville, Dockery and Leech play Lord Grantham, Lady Mary Crawley and Tom Branson on the period drama, respectively. The series debuted on ITV in 2010, and will come to a close after six seasons with the annual Christmas special Dec. 25.
“I would have liked to have seen a slightly different end, and you’ll only know what that is when the final episode airs and I think a lot of fans will agree, but I can’t really say more than that,” Leech said the next day on Watch What Happens Live.
Downton Abbey airs on PBS in the U.S. The series follows the aristocrats and servants who live and work in an English manor house in the 1900s, and co-stars Elizabeth McGovern, Laura Carmichael, Jessica Brown Findlay and Maggie Smith.
