NEW YORK – October 9, 2015 — (UPI) — Drew Barrymore recently opened up about body image with InStyle magazine.

The 40-year-old actress discussed her road to self-acceptance in an interview for the publication’s November issue. Barrymore confessed to being hard on herself in the past, but said she learned to focus on more important priorities, like her two children.

“I am who I am and I just don’t have a bikini body,” she said. “I don’t even have a one-piece body anymore! But I am loving the long rash guard, board-shorts look. I’ve beaten myself up about not being a certain thing. If someone says, ‘Let’s go to the beach today,’ my first thought is, ‘[Expletive], what am I going to wear?'”

“I remember when Amy Schumer was on Ellen, she called her midsection a ‘lava lamp,'” she recalled. “I thought, ‘That was perfect! That’s what I’ve been trying to say.’ But then I saw her in “Trainwreck,” and she looked so good in a tiny bra and short skirt. I was like, ‘No, you don’t have a lava lamp.'”

Barrymore and husband Will Kopelman have been together since 2011, and married in June 2012. The couple have two daughters, 3-year-old Olive and 17-month-old Frankie, who inspired the actress’ forthcoming book of essays, ‘Wildflower.’

“I’m not going to pretend to my daughters that I’m pure as the driven snow,” she shared. “The best I can do is open up my heart to them. That’s soul-baring enough. Making bad decisions doesn’t make you a bad person. It is how you learn to make better choices.”

Barrymore last appeared in “Blended” with Adam Sandler, and will next star in “Miss You Already” with Toni Collette. The actress will take on fewer projects to focus on her family, but is also serving as executive producer on Freak Show and producer on “How to Be Single.”
