Emily Blunt appears as Mary Poppins in first photo from Disney

March 5 (UPI) — Walt Disney Studios has released on social media the first photo of British actress Emily Blunt as the iconic nanny Mary Poppins.

“Here is your first glimpse of Golden Globe-winner Emily Blunt as Mary Poppins in “Mary Poppins Returns,” the all-new sequel to Disney’s 1964 film “Mary Poppins,” coming to U.S. theaters Dec. 25, 2018,” the studio said in its post Friday.

The image features “The Devil Wears Prada” and “The Girl on the Train star wearing a long, early 20th-century blue coat and a pink hat with a feather. As she approaches the front door of a house, she holds Poppins’ signature magical bag. Blunt’s face cannot be clearly seen in the picture.

The original classic film starred Julie Andrews as the title character and Dick Van Dyke as chimney sweep Bert. Set 25 years after the events of “Mary Poppins,” the sequel will feature Colin Firth as William Weatherall Wilkins, the president of the Fidelity Fiduciary Bank, and Lin-Manuel Miranda, who will play Mary’s friend, Jack the lamplighter.
