Dec. 28 (UPI) — Emma Stone says she’s “still finding” her voice as she begins her 30s.
The Oscar-winning actress discussed her 30th birthday and her 14-month hiatus from acting in the February issue of British Vogue.
Stone turned 30 years old Nov. 6. The milestone birthday initially made her feel “gloomy” before she embraced the “bittersweet” experience.
“I got gloomy for about a week,” she shared. “But realized the most interesting part about becoming an adult is most things become bittersweet. I’m still finding my voice.”
The “La La Land” star shared her life lessons thus far in the interview.
“It’s OK if not everybody likes you. So that was a major lesson, not falling over myself to win over the unwinnable,” Stone said.
“Nobody knows what they’re doing!” she added. “We’re all just a bunch of people trying to figure out how to get through the day.”
Stone was 28 when she won an Academy Award for Best Actress for “La La Land” in 2017 and was named Forbes’ highest-paid actress the same year. She took a step back from the spotlight to recalibrate in 2018.
“I haven’t worked since last December — by the time I work again, it will have been 14 months,” the star said. “I didn’t learn a language, I didn’t learn to cook, I’ve been a little… drifty.”
Stone returns in the new film “The Favourite,” which opened in theaters in November. She told The Hollywood Reporter in September she’s “still learning” her craft, such as channeling her anger into a role.
“Since [Birdman] I have found joy and challenge in such a new way. All I ever want to do now is reach that breaking point, because the other side of it is so incredible,” the actress said.
