Jan. 26 (UPI) — Eva Amurri Martino says she stopped breastfeeding her son at 3 months due to stress.
The 31-year-old actress discussed in a recent blog post her decision to stop breastfeeding Major, her son with husband Kyle Martino, after the infant cracked his skull in a fall.
“My breastfeeding journey got totally thrown off,” Martino explained. “While we were in the hospital with him, and in the next couple weeks, my milk supply dipped big time. The stress was just too much for my body, and I had to start pumping to up my supply, as well as use lactation tea to increase it.”
“Then, my post-partum anxiety began, and my milk supply has been so troubled ever since,” she shared. “On ‘good days’ it was fine, and Major would be able to easily get a robust and full feeding from me — but then on the bad days or weeks when I was having a hard time emotionally, my supply would suffer.”
“What made it even worse is how much I would blame myself for it,” the star admitted. “My own feelings of self-doubt and built wouldn’t allow me to view [formula] as an option this time around … Kyle finally stepped in and asked me to stop torturing myself.”
Major fractured his skull in November after his night nurse accidentally dropped him, as Martino told fans in a blog post Jan. 1. She said at the time that her son was doing well, but confessed she was plagued with anxiety.
“I’m in an emotionally bad place,” the star admitted. “I’m depleted and anxious, and I haven’t been giving my anxiety and feelings the attention they deserve for a little while now.”
Martino and Kyle Martino married in 2011 and also share 2-year-old daughter Marlowe. The actress is the daughter of Susan Sarandon and Franco Amurri, and last starred in the movie “Mothers and Daughters” with her mom.
