FanX: The Who’s Who Of Who And More: The Top Ten Stars Who Are Coming

FanX features a massive lineup of celebrities, and the list just keeps on getting bigger (last year, Sir Patrick Stewart was not even announced until the first day of the convention.). Every one of these stars has someone coming just to see them, but some of them really stand out.

1. Matt SmithMatt Smith

He’s the guy that made bow ties cool.

Matt Smith played the title character on the BBC’s “Doctor Who” on three series (seasons), as well as seven specials, over a four year period.  Smith was the first Doctor since producer Stephen Moffat (“Sherlock”) took the helm, and came at a pivotal time when the series was really becoming a major hit in the United States. One of the most beloved stars in science fiction, Smith’s appearance is one of the biggest coups yet for Salt Lake Comic Con. Alongside his predecessor, David Tennant, Smith is credited with playing a major role in changing the 51 year old franchise from a show for nerdy guys who were afraid to talk to a girl, to a common interest that gives nerdy guys a jumping off point to talk to beautiful girls (even if they are staring off into space and thinking about Smith and Tennant the whole time.)

2. Karen Gillan

She’s a girl who’s worth the wait.

One of the two most popular stars at last year’s FanX (along with Nathan Fillion of “Firefly” and “Castle)”, Gillan has since become an even higher profile sci-fi star after appearing in last year’s “Guardians Of The Galaxy” in the role of Nebula, which required her to shave her trade mark red locks. For fans of “Doctor Who,” it’s impossible to think of Matt Smith’s Doctor without thinking of his closest companion, Amy Pond, and having the two of them together at FanX is a dream come true for Whovians.

3. Carrie FisherCarrie Fisher2

I have a good feeling about this.

The first big crush of every boy for an entire generation, Carrie Fisher’s iconic performance as Princess Leia in “Star Wars, “The Empire Strikes back” and “Return Of The Jedi” makes a true living legend, and since she is reprising her most famous role in “Star Wars Episode VIII: The Force Awakens” , due in theaters this December, she a hotter commodity now than she would have been just a few years ago.  But no, she won’t be appearing in the metal bikini.

4. Nichelle Nicols

A kiss is never just a kiss.

Best known as Lt. Uhura from the original “Star Trek” series and subsequent six films, Nichelle Nichols isn’t just an actress, she’s a living legend.  Uhura was one of the first African American women on television portrayed as something other than a servant, and when was considering leaving the show, Martin Luther King, Jr. himself asked her to stay because of the positive impact she made in American culture.

5. Christopher Lloyd

Great Scott!

A true Hollywood icon, Christopher Lloyd is best known to science fiction fans as Dr. Emmett Brown in the “Back To The Future” trilogy . . . unless they know him Judge Doom in “Who Framed Roger Rabbit? . . . or Uncle Fester in “The Addams Family . . . or  maybe Commander Kruge in “Star Trek III: The Search For Spock.” But before any of that, Lloyd was a breakout star on television’s “Taxi,” playing the spaced out Jim Ignatowski.

6. Billie Piper Billie Piper (3)

A Rose by any other name . .

One the most most beloved companions in “Doctor Who” history, Billie Piper appeared as Rose Tyler alongside Christopher Eccleston and David Tennant.  Also known for the Showtime series “Penny Dreadfull” and the BBC series “Secret Diary Of Call Girl,” Piper is a fan favorite.

7. Lena Headey

Waiting in line may not be quick, but you WILL enjoy this.

Lena Headey got her big break in the 1993 Oscar nominated film “The Remains of The Day”  and is recognizable to millions as Cersei Lannister in HBO’s monster hit “Game Of Thrones.” After being scouted at age 17 in her native Britain, she worked steadily as an actress in small and supporting roles in films throughout the 1990’s, before finding fame for her lead performances in big-budget films such as the fantasy film “The Brothers Grimm,” as Queen Gorgo in the comic book based action film “300,” and as the title character on “Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles” on FOX.

8.  Steven Yeun

One dead sexy celebrity.

One of the stars of the wildly popular series “The Walking Dead,” Yeun plays Glenn Rhee, who has been dodging zombies since the beginning of the series.  Yeun also provided a voice for the critically acclaimed Nickoldeon series “The Legend of Korra.”

9.   Tom Felton Tom Felton

The boy you love to hate.

Draco Malfoy, the sniveling young rival to “Harry Potter,” is a character that a generation grew up hating, but author J.K. Rowling recently commented that she has been unnerved to discover how many young girls fell for this fictional bad boy. The reason for this is quite likely the charming and talented Felton, whom you may have also seen in “Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes” or in “Anna and The King” as Jodie Foster’s young son.

10. Brandon Routh

The hottest guy on the “Planet.”

No stranger to comic book fans, Routh starred in “Dylan Dogg: Dead Of Night” and played a major supporting role in “Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World,”  and has a recurring role on the CW’s “Arrow” this season as Ray Palmer, also known as The Atom (a spinoff is already in the works.). But to most, he will always be remembered for his uncanny resemblance to the late Christopher Reeve, which landed him the title role in “Superman Returns.” [one_fourth]

[/one_fourth][three_fourth_last] Of course, given their past record of pulling off last minute miracles, FanX could still have a surprise guest or two in store, but the about names will be pretty hard for even the Comic Crew to top.
