WYCKOFF, N.J., Aug. 13 (UPI) — Former American Idol contestant Constantine Maroulis was reportedly arrested for domestic violence early Wednesday morning.

According to TMZ, the singer allegedly kicked ex-girlfriend Angel Reed in the groin. Maroulis claims to have acted in self-defense, a rep told the outlet. Later, a rep told E! News the singer hadn’t assaulted her in the ways described at all.

Reed, the mother of Maroulis’ 4-year-old daughter, called authorities after the purported incident, causing the theater star to be arrested soon after. He was quickly released on bail.

Maroulis’ rep told E! he sustained an injury on his right thigh from the confrontation and that he acted out of self-protection. “He did not throw her to the ground or kick her in the groin during this incident,” the rep said in a statement to the outlet.

“Mr. Maroulis intends to defend himself vigorously, as well as protect his child, both in the court of law and, as necessary, in the court of public opinion and is confident that he will be completely vindicated when the truth is known,” the rep added.

“He thanks his family, friends, fans and supporters for their continued faith and trust in him during this challenging time and assures them that their belief in him is warranted.”
