TOKYO, July 20 (UPI) — Godzilla has returned to Japan to wreck havoc in the latest trailer for the Japanese produced “Godzilla Resurgence.”

The clip released Monday, calls back to classic incarnations of the character having the iconic fire breathing lizard look and sound more similar to his first appearance in “Godzilla” from 1954. Differences are present however such as a longer swinging tail, skinny arms, and haunting blue eyes.

The trailer set to opera music, details the human element of the story as Japanese officials and military personnel are seen debating how best to deal with Godzilla. Despite their best efforts, Godzilla is shown standing triumphantly over a burning city.

“A cause unknown, an accident has occurred in the tunnels of the Tokyo Bay Aqua Line, causing an emergency cabinet meeting to convene. Immediately afterwards, a huge creature appears, destroying town after town with its landing reaching the capital. The mysterious giant organism named Godzilla,” reads the synopsis.

Produced by Toho Pictures and directed by Hideaki Anno, one of the creative forces behind popular anime “Neon Genesis Evangelion,” and Shinji Higuchi, “Godzilla Resurgence” arrives in Japanese theaters on July 29. A stateside release has yet to be announced.
