INDIANA, April 22, 2016 (Gephardt Daily) — Erin Moran, the actress known for her iconic role of Joanie on the 1970s TV blockbuster “Happy Days,” has died at the age of 56.

According to TMZ, police in Indiana were called by someone reporting an “unresponsive female” about 4 p.m. Saturday. When first responders arrived they found Moran already dead.

For nearly 10 years, Moran played the role of Joanie Cunningham, younger sister of Richie Cunningham, America’s favorite coming-of-age teenager, which was played by the show’s star, Ron Howard.

Moran continued in the role of Joanie until 1982, when she appeared opposite Scott Baio in the “Happy Days” spinoff “Joanie Loves Chachi.”  The show was canceled after one season.

Henry Winkler, aka “The Fonz,” responded to the news of Moran’s death on Twitter. “OH Erin,” the post said “… now you will finally have the peace you wanted so badly here on earth … Rest In It serenely now… too soon.”
