UPDATE: LOS ANGELES, March 18 (LA Times) LA Times – Los Angeles Police Department detectives have two handwriting experts who link Robert Durst to an anonymous letter tipping authorities to the slaying of writer Susan Berman in 2000, according a search warrant made public on Wednesday.

An anonymous note was sent to Beverly Hills police at the time that alerted them to “a cadaver” in her house.

That letter is at the center of an HBO documentary series about Durst, who was charged Monday in Berman’s killing.

The HBO filmmakers uncovered a second letter that Durst admitted writing to Berman. That letter had a similar block style printing as the cadaver letter and contained the same misspelling of “Beverley.” The filmmakers at some point provided that information to Los Angeles police.

Los Angeles County prosecutors filed a murder charge Monday against real estate scion Durst in the December 2000 killing of his longtime friend Susan Berman, who was found shot execution-style in her Benedict Canyon home.

Durst, the subject of the HBO true-crime series “The Jinx” about his suspected involvement in three murders, was arrested Saturday in New Orleans.

Durst was taken into custody just before 11 p.m. Saturday night. Los Angeles County issued the arrest warrant.

A booking photo on the Orleans Parish Sheriff’s office website shows 71-year-old Durst wearing an orange jumpsuit.

Durst was found not guilty in a 2003 murder trial in Galveston, Texas even after he admitted that he dismembered his neighbor’s body and threw it into a waterway. He was acquitted via a self-defense claim.

According to NBC News, Durst is also suspected in the 1982 disappearance of his first wife and the 2000 execution-style murder of confidant Susan Berman.

The final episode of the six-part HBO series airs Sunday.
