NEW YORK, Oct. 31 (UPI) — Actress Hilary Duff and her boyfriend Jason Walsh have apologized for their controversial Native American and “sexy pilgrim” Halloween costumes.
Duff was seen wearing and black and white Pilgrim-style shirt and hat with only a pair of hot pants and fishnet tights.
Walsh dressed as a Native American, complete with face paint and a headdress, which some people found offensive.
Duff tweeted that the costume “was not properly thought through.”
“I am truly, from the bottom of my [heart] sorry,” she wrote.
Walsh issued an apology on Instagram saying he apologized to anyone who was offended.
“I meant no disrespect. I only have admiration for the indigenous people of America,” he said.
Duff, who gained fame as Lizzie McGuire on the Disney show of the same name, currently stars on “Younger” on TV Land.
