October 21, 2015 (Gephardt Daily) – In “Back to the Future II (1989),” Marty McFly got into Doc Brown’s DeLorean turned the time machine on October 26, 1985 and landed in the fictional town of ‘Hill Valley’ on October 21, 2015 to catch a glimpse of the future.

Some of those ‘futuristic’ screen predictions in “Back to the Future II” are remarkably close to current technology.

Flying cars are in their infancy (give that a few years) and hover-boards are being worked on.

Nike says they have the patent on self-lacing shoes but haven’t released a working model just yet. Nike says they will be available later this year.

Skype and FaceTime have made video conferencing an everyday experience. Marty, played by Michael J. Fox, passes a movie theater featuring “Jaws 19,” directed by Max Spielberg. 3-D technology has improved greatly and more films are being produced in 3-D than ever before.

In the film, Biff pays for a cab using his thumbprint. That technology is in use right now, as we use our thumbprints to activate our smartphones and as I.D. protection on some banking apps.

With all these predictions coming true, maybe the Cubs winning the World Series isn’t that far off.
