James Noble Of TV’s ‘Benson’ Dead At 94

NORWALK, Conn., March 29, 2016 (Gephardt Daily) — The actor who was best known for his role as Governor Eugene Gatling on the TV series “Benson” has died.

James Noble passed away on Monday at Norwalk Hospital in Connecticut after suffering a stroke. He was 94.

The actor played Governor Gatling for seven seasons on “Benson,” but appeared in guest roles on many other TV shows during the 1980s and 1990s.

Noble was also well-known for his stage performance as John Hancock in the Broadway musical “1776.” The actor also took on the role of Reverend John Witherspoon when the musical was adapted to the big screen in 1972.
