LOS ANGELES, Oct. 12 (UPI) — Jim Carrey is facing another wrongful death lawsuit after his ex-girlfriend, Cathriona White, took her own life last September. White’s mother said Carrey “should be ashamed.”

“Jim Carrey should be ashamed of what he did to my daughter,” Brigid Sweetman, White’s mother, said in a statement. “And he should be ashamed for how he used his Hollywood attorneys to badmouth Cat’s husband Mark with the hope that nobody will hold him responsible for what he did.”

Sweetman alleges Carrey illegally supplied the drugs that caused White’s fatal overdose.

Carrey’s lawyer, Martin Singer, said Sweetman is distraught and looking for someone to take the fall.

“It’s understandable that a mother who has lost her daughter will look for someone to blame,” Singer said. “But in directing her grief and rage at Jim Carrey… Ms. Sweetman is heading down the same dark path as Cathriona’s green-card ‘husband’ Mark Burton.”

Burton also filed a wrongful death suit against Carrey last month which Carrey said was “a heartless attempt to exploit” him.

“I really hope that someday soon people will stop trying to profit from this and let her rest in peace,” Carrey said.
