Aug. 9 (UPI) — South Korean music duo JJ Project is celebrating the success of its new album following a five-year hiatus as a group.
K-pop stars JB and Jinyoung discussed their mini-album “Verse 2” with reporters Tuesday after the EP debuted on iTunes and Billboard charts.
“We did not release the album to make a big success,” the singers said, according to The Korea Times. “We did not expect our new music to top the charts.”
“Verse 2” topped the iTunes Album chart in 12 countries, and debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard World Music chart. JB and Jinyoung, who are also members of the group GOT7, said they wanted their comeback to highlight their new musical style.
“We know JJ Project was not very successful since it was our first try,” Jinyoung said of the duo’s first album, “Bounce,” which was released in 2012. “We had no regrets. It definitely helped us to debut as GOT7 again.”
“However, we decided to return as JJ Project because we wanted to show how GOT7 pursues various styles of music,” JB added.
Verse 2 also came in at No. 9 on the Billboard Heatseekers Album chart, according to Soompi. The album, which was released July 31, includes the single “Tomorrow, Today.”
