LONDON, May 9 (UPI) — Johnny Depp has mocked an apology video he recently recorded with his wife, Amber Heard, to apologize for illegally smuggling their two Yorkshire terriers into Australia.

“I’m going to do this everywhere I go. I would really like to apologize for not smuggling my dogs into England, because it would have been a bad thing to do,” the actor said during a press event in London for his upcoming film “Alice Through the Looking Glass.”

Imitating his seemingly dead-pan delivery from the apology video, Depp described the Australians as “chipper” and joked with the film’s producer, Tim Burton, about trying to kill his dogs after the incident.

Depp and Heard were asked to record the apology, which was posted to Youtube by the Australian government in April, after the actress escaped conviction for illegally bringing the couple’s dogs Pistol and Boo into the country.

“I am truly sorry that Pistol and Boo were not declared,” Heard is seen saying in the original clip discussing the importance of the country’s biosecurity laws. “Protecting Australia is important.”

The incident occurred in July 2015 when Heard visited Depp in Australia as he was filming the latest “Pirates of the Caribbean” movie. The actress originally faced a maximum of 10 years jail and/or a fine of $75,000. The story gained headlines after Australia’s Agriculture Minister Barnaby Joyce called out Depp and his wife and threatened to have the dogs euthanized if they were not sent back to the United States.

Joyce later remarked on Depp’s apology. stating, “I don’t think he’ll get an Academy Award for his performance.”

“Alice Through the Looking Glass” arrives in theaters May 27.
