Entertainment Tonight reported Couric will fill in for current “Today” star Savannah Guthrie, who has been on maternity leave since giving birth to her second child Dec. 9.
Meredith Vieira and Natalie Morales will also each co-anchor the show for a week next month, E! News said.
Couric co-hosted “Today” with Matt Lauer 1991-2006. She returned as a guest to promote her “Stand Up to Cancer” telethon in 2008 and promoted her book, “The Best Advice I Ever Got,” there in 2011.
Since leaving Today, the 59-year-old, broadcast journalist anchored the CBS Evening News for five years, hosted a syndicated talk show called “Katie” 2012-14 and has served as global news anchor for Yahoo News since 2014.
