LOS ANGELES, Nov. 17 (UPI) — Kendall Jenner offered an explanation Wednesday after deleting her Instagram account earlier this week.

The 21-year-old model said on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” that she’s taking a break from Instagram because she felt “too dependent” on the photo-sharing app.

“I just wanted to detox. I just wanted a little bit of a break,” Jenner explained.

“I’m always on it. I would wake up in the morning and I would look at it first thing. I would go to bed and it was the last thing I’d look at. I felt a little too dependent on it, so I kind of wanted to take a minute. It’s a detox. I’ll be back,” she promised.

Jenner’s profile disappeared with warning Sunday, leaving her 68 million followers confused and dismayed. She told DeGeneres she misses the app but also feels a new sense of freedom.

“[I] kind of [wonder what’s going on], but that’s kind of the beauty of it. I’ll be on my phone and I’ll find myself going to click on Instagram and it won’t be there, and I kind of love that,” the star admitted. “It’s kind of a nice, refreshing feeling.”

“It’s really nice. I suggest it. I’m away from my phone so much more. You start to engage in real life and how you have to deal with real people right in front of you. So it’s kind of really nice to be away from it, even if it’s just Instagram,” she said.

Jenner had revealed in the October issue of Allure that she sometimes deletes her social media accounts in order to focus on real-life experiences. She admitted she has several close friends and family members who “can’t get off” their phones.

“I find it offensive if you’re with someone at dinner and they’re just sitting on their phone the whole time,” the model told the magazine. “I take that so personally. Like, am I not interesting enough for you to talk to me?”

Jenner and her family came to fame on the E! series “Keeping Up with the Kardashians,” which airs Sundays at 9 p.m. ET. She is known for her modeling work with Marc Jacobs, Balmain and Chanel.
