Nov. 16 (UPI) — The Old Vic theater in London has finished their investigation of Kevin Spacey and have found 20 counts of “alleged inappropriate behavior.”
Spacey served as an artistic director at the Old Vic from 2004 to 2015. The investigation which comes after the actor has faced sexual harassment allegations, found that 16 staff members and four others came forward with allegations of their own.
“This investigation concluded that there have been 20 personal allegations of incidents relating to The Old Vic ranging from 1995 to 2013, with the majority [all but two] falling before 2009,” the theater said in a statement. The Old Vic also noted that Spacey’s stardom may have led to the individuals feeling that they could not speak up about the allegations before.
“On behalf of The Old Vic Board of Trustees, to all those people who felt unable to speak up at the time, The Old Vic truly apologises,” chairman Nick Clarry said. “Inappropriate behaviour by anyone working at The Old Vic is completely unacceptable.”
The Old Vic also promised that with artistic director Matthew Warchus — who has been in place since 2014 — the theater will be ensuring the safety of all who work for the company.
“Since his appointment in 2014, [artistic director] Matthew Warchus has already created a different, open, inclusive environment at The Old Vic, and The Way Forward will build on this positive, supportive and nurturing approach. We have a significantly more robust and effective workplace now than ever before; but there is always more to be done, and lessons to learn from,” they said.
Spacey has not commented on the 20 Old Vic allegations.
