Jan. 19 (UPI) — Rapper Kodak Black was arrested Thursday on seven felony charges in Florida, including grand theft of a firearm and child neglect.
In addition to those charges, the 20-year-old musician, whose real name is Dieuson Octave, was charged with two counts of possession of weapon or ammo by a felon; possession of more than 20 grams of marijuana and two counts of probation violation.
The child neglect charge was “without great bodily harm.”
During the arrest, Black posted live video to his Instagram account of police entering his home and telling him his phone would be confiscated as part of a search warrant, WPLG reported.
“Your phone is part of this search warrant. You are not going to get your phone back,” a man is heard saying.
Black was booked into the Broward County Detention Center.
Black’s Florida arrest is on top of separate charges he faces in South Carolina, where he was indicted on sexual assault charges in October.
At the time of his arrest Thursday, Black was serving a one-year house arrest sentence that was part of a five-year probation stint after he pleaded no contest to several charges, including robbery, false imprisonment, fleeing a law enforcement officer and possession of a firearm by a delinquent, the Sun-Sentinel reported last year.
Before his release on house arrest at that time, Sandra Friedman, Black’s probation officer, said in court that his youth and his associations were hampering his ability to stay out of trouble.
“At 19, I don’t think he has a mentality yet to be able to handle everything being thrown at him at once,” she said. “I think he needs some people who are looking out for his interests. He needs to deal with his problems and he definitely needs anger management.”
Despite his ongoing problems with the law, Black is coming off a successful year with music.
His most recent album, Project Baby Two, debuted at the top of the Billboard hip hop charts in August.
