LOS ANGELES, Oct. 10 (UPI) — Kristen Stewart is interested in women and isn’t afraid to say it.

The 26-year-old actress defended her openness about her sexuality in the November issue of Elle after professing her love for girlfriend Alicia Cargile in July.

“I’m not ashamed, and I’m not confused,” she said. “Things have changed. And not just with me — we’re really allowed to encourage this new acceptance to develop and be awesome.”

Stewart, who previously dated her “Twilight” co-star Robert Pattinson, was first linked to Cargile, her former personal assistant, in January 2015. She couldn’t help but gush about her girlfriend in the September issue of Elle U.K.

“Right now I’m just really in love with my girlfriend,” the star said. “We’ve broken up a couple of times and gotten back together, and this time I was like, ‘Finally, I can feel again.'”

Stewart was once notoriously private about her personal life, but has become increasingly open in the past two years. She said in the May issue of Variety that she no longer keeps her relationships with women quiet.

“As much as I want to protect myself, it’s not about hiding,” the actress explained. “As soon as you start throwing up so many walls, you cannot see over them yourself, so you just start isolating in a way that’s not honest. I definitely found where I’m comfortable.”

Stewart will next appear in Billy Lynn’s “Long Halftime Walk” with Joe Alwyn. She will also star in “Personal Shopper” with Lars Eidinger and a Lizzie Borden movie with Chloe Sevigny.
