May 20 (UPI) — Lin-Manuel Miranda has joined the voice cast of Disney‘s upcoming revival of “DuckTales.”
The “Hamilton” creator will appear in the animated series as Gizmoduck, a superhero in Duckburg whose secret identity is that of Fenton Crackshell-Cabrera, reported Entertainment Weekly.
The character, who also appeared in the original animated series, is the brilliant intern of Scrooge McDuck’s mad scientist friend Gyro Gearloose.
“Lin came to mind instantly for the role of Gizmoduck,” executive producer Matt Youngberg said to The Hollywood Reporter. “His rapid-fire earnestness paired with his wide-eyed yet determined optimism made him the perfect person to yell ‘Blathering blatherskite!'”
“Growing up as a Cuban-American comics enthusiast, I was always hungry for a Latino hero to call my own. In developing the new series, Matt and I leapt at the opportunity to adapt “DuckTales” marquee hero into a young scientist character with Latin-inspired roots,” added co-producer and story editor Francisco Angone about how this new version of Gizmoduck will be portrayed.
Miranda joins a voice cast that includes David Tennant as the wealthy Scrooge McDuck while his nephew sidekicks Huey, Dewey and Louie will be voiced by Danny Pudi, Ben Schwartz and Bobby Moynihan respectively. Other cast members featured include Beck Bennett as Launchpad McQuack, Toks Olagundoye as Mrs. Beakley and Kate Micucci as Webby Vanderquack.
Based on the original cartoon of the same name, which aired from 1987-1990, “DuckTales” follows the adventures of Scrooge McDuck and his nephews as they hunt for treasures around the world and fight off enemies after Scrooge’s vast fortune.
“DuckTales” is set to debut on Disney XD this summer and has already been picked for a second season in advance of its premiere.
