NEW YORK, Sept. 13 (UPI) — The feel-good musical Mamma Mia! — the destination for countless bachelorette parties — was performed for the last time on Broadway Saturday night.

The show featured the music of the Swedish pop group ABBA and told the story of a young bride who invites three of her mother’s ex-boyfriends to her wedding on the Greek island where she was raised in an effort to determine who her real father is.

Mamma Mia! played more than 5,700 performances on Broadway since it opened in October 2001 at the Winter Garden Theatre, CBS News noted. It later moved to the Broadhurst Theatre where the curtains dropped on it for the last time this weekend.

A production in London’s West End debuted in 1999 and continues to play.

The show was also adapted as a 2008 movie starring Meryl Streep, Pierce Brosnan,Colin Firth and Amanda Seyfried.
