NEW YORK, Feb. 23 (UPI) — Mariska Hargitay and Lena Dunham showed their support for Kesha on social media Monday, adding their voices to a number of celebrities dismayed by the singer’s recent court battle with Dr. Luke.

The 52-year-old “Law & Order: SVU” star lent her encouragement on Twitter, while the 29-year-old “Girls” creator penned a lengthy essay on her Lenny newsletter website.

“For many survivors, speaking out is the hardest part. It’s also only the first step. Sending u strength @KeshaRose as u move through this,” Hargitay tweeted.

Kesha remains legally bound to her contract with Dr. Luke, a music producer she claims sexually, physically and verbally abused her, after a New York judged denied her injunction Friday. The 28-year-old singer is under a 10-year contract with the 42-year-old producer.

“When I saw the outcome of Kesha’s court case last Friday, I felt sick,” Dunham wrote. “The photos of her beautiful face crumpled with tears, the legally necessary but sickening use of the word ‘alleged’ over and over in reference to the assault she says she remembers so vividly — it all created a special brand of nausea.”

“Kesha’s case is about more than a pop star fighting for her freedom, or a $60 million investment in a shiny commercial career,” she said. “What’s happening to Kesha highlights the way that the American legal system continues to hurt women by failing to protect them from the men they identify as their abusers.”

Dunham’s boyfriend, musician and producer Jack Antonoff, showed his support for Kesha the same day by offering to help her record new music. DJ and producer Zedd and singers Demi Lovato and Taylor Swift are among the other stars who have voiced support.
