MILWAUKEE, Aug. 21 (UPI) — Matt Roberts’ father says the former 3 Doors Down guitarist has died of an apparent prescription drug overdose. He was 38.
Darrell Roberts told TMZ he was with his son outside of Milwaukee this weekend for a charity event where the musician was expected to perform.
Darrell said Matt rehearsed until early Saturday morning and was found dead just hours later.
Us Weekly said Matt left 3 Doors Down — famous for its song “Kryptonite” — in 2012 due to heath issues related to his circulation and exacerbated by the group’s grueling tour schedule.
Roberts co-founded the Mississippi rock band in 1994 with vocalist and drummer Brad Arnold and bassist Todd Hartwell.
The group has not commented on Roberts’ death yet via its website or social media accounts.
