WASHINGTON, April 21 (UPI) — The Weinstein Company has released the first trailer for “The Founder,” based on the true story behind the launch of the United States’ biggest business phenomenons: McDonald’s.

Michael Keaton plays opportunistic businessman Ray Kroc, founder of the global franchise as we know it today, in the John Lee Hancock-directed drama.

USA Today first revealed the trailer, which sees Kroc build upon the fast-food idea of Mac McDonald, played by John Carrol Lynch, and Dick McDonald, played by Nick Offerman.

The film takes place in 1950s South Carolina.

“McDonald’s can be the new American church, and it ain’t just open on Sundays,” Keaton is heard saying in the clip, a triumphant expression on his face.

“The Founder,” opening in theaters Aug. 5, also stars Laura Dern, Patrick Wilson, B.J. Novak and Linda Cardellini.
