BALTIMORE, Nov. 30 (UPI) — Michael Phelps delighted fans by posting from one of son Boomer’s swim lessons this week.
The 31-year-old retired Olympic swimmer shared a video on Facebook Live of himself with the 6-month-old and wife Nicole Johnson in a swimming pool.
“Guess he really does just go to a happy place, just like daddy when he’s in the pool,” he said after his son appeared to fall asleep.
Phelps and his family were visiting his hometown of Baltimore, Md., for the holidays, and took Boomer to Meadowbrook Aquatic Center. The infant had his lesson with Cathy Bennett, who taught Phelps himself to swim when he was 6 years old.
“He did better today. He didn’t cry that much. He had a little good swim today,” Phelps said. “I felt like he’s better relaxed today than he was before, which is nice.”
“It was good. Today was very good, very successful,” he added. “The process is starting where he gets to become more water-safe, relaxed and comfortable in the water.”
Phelps and Johnson welcomed Boomer in May and married in secret in June. The five-time Olympian was enthusiastic about teaching his son to swim in an interview with USA Today the same month.
“I’d really like to get him in the water to see how he reacts,” he said. “He loves baths, so he feels very relaxed in the water. Very at home. Maybe he’ll feel the same when he’s in the pool!”
