NEW YORK, Nov. 24 (UPI) — The Muppets kicked off NBC’s broadcast of the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York with a huge musical number Thursday.

The beloved creatures sang an energetic, new take on their classic “Starring Everybody and Me” song, prompting the Muppets to be a trending topic on Twitter for much of the morning.

Spotted outside the American Museum of Natural History for the performance were Miss Piggy, Kermit the Frog, Scooter, Fozzie Bear, Rowlf, Pepe the prawn, Sweetums, Gonzo, the Swedish chef and other iconic puppets.

When they were done, NBC emcees Matt Lauer and Savannah Guthrie introduced the next act — the Muppet music group Dr. Teeth and the Electric Mayhem band, who covered the classic song “Twist and Shout” as cheerleaders and band members danced along in front of the landmark department store sponsoring the event.
