Muppets Return to Primetime
BURBANK, Calif., May 8,2015 (UPI) — A new series starring The Muppets will air in primetime next season, ABC announced, at last officially confirming long-simmering media reports about the project.
“The Muppets return to primetime with a contemporary, documentary-style show that, for the first time ever, will explore the Muppets’ personal lives and relationships, both at home and at work, as well as romances, break-ups, achievements, disappointments, wants and desires; a more adult Muppet show, for kids of all ages,” the network said in a news release Thursday.
Bill Prady, who has worked on The Big Bang Theory, and Bob Kushell, whose credits include Anger Management, are the co-writers and executive producers of The Muppets. Randall Einhorn and Bill Barretta are also executive producers on the show, which is being produced by ABC Studios and The Muppets Studio.
Created in the 1950s by the late Jim Henson, The Muppets are the various talking animal, monster and people puppets featured in numerous big-screen adventures and online shorts, as well as TV programs such as The Muppet Show, which ran 1976-81, and Muppets Tonight, which aired 1996-98.
