New on Blu-Ray and DVD: Films Worth a Revisit

July 21, 2015 (Gephardt Daily) – There are some films worth a second look and certainly these two films are well worth a replay.

Re-releasing this week is “What We Do in the Shadows” which was a huge audience and critic favorite from Sundance in 2014.

It seems that Vampires Viago, Deacon, and Vladislav are finding that modern life has them struggling with mundane things, like paying rent, keeping up with the chore wheel, trying to get into nightclubs and overcoming flatmate conflicts.

“What We Do in the Shadows” is shot as comedy documentary about vampires who, can’t seem to adapt to the current century. Think of “Modern Family” meets Count Dracula… and you get the idea.

The film is well worth renting and deserves a solid B.

“My Beautiful Laundrette” is given the digital upgrade from The Criterion Collection it so deserves.

The film is all about a young Pakistani man living in 1980s London. His father is a journalist who lives in London but hates Britain and its international politics.

The father assigns the son the task of running a run-down laundrette and turning it into a profitable business, despite the area of the city in which its located. “My Beautiful Laundrette” also boasts a then practically unknown Daniel Day-Lewis.

“My Beautiful Laundrette” deserves an A. It’s rated R.
