LONDON, June 11 (UPI) — Recording artist Rod Stewart has been knighted and “Downton Abbey” alum Penelope Wilton made a dame by Britain’s Queen Elizabeth II.

The BBC reported astronaut Tim Peake, cricket captain Alastair Cook, former footballer Alan Shearer, broadcaster Janet Street-Porter, TV presenters Antony McPartlin and Declan Donnelly, and actor Brian Blessed were also recognized for their contributions to British culture.

The Wrap said Friday’s awards were part of the monarch’s annual Birthday Honors List.

Elizabeth has been the queen since 1953. She turned 90 on April 21.

Festivities celebrating her milestone birthday also included a service at St. Paul’s Cathedral in London Friday attended by her sons Princes Charles and Andrew, daughter Princess Anne, grandsons Princes William and Harry, granddaughters Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie, and in-laws Duchesses Kate Middleton and Camilla Parker-Bowles, People magazine said.

A parade through London is planned for Saturday, while the Patron’s Lunch for about 10,000 people who work for charities and causes associated with the queen is scheduled for Sunday.
