HOLLYWOOD – November 2, 2015 (Gephardt Daily) — Dimension Films as just announced December 22, 2015 as the date when “The Six Billion Dollar Man” hits the big screen.
According to Variety, the production will begin sometime in September 2016. Wahlberg, who will be starring in the sci-fi film, is producing along side Stephen Levinson and Bob Weinstein.
“The Six Million Dollar Man” is based on the classic television series from the 1970s starring Lee Majors and produced by Harve Bennett from the novel “Cyborg” by Martin Caidin.
The story follows Air Force Colonel Steve Austin, who becomes part of a top secret government program after a horrific accident leaves him near death. With the help of cutting edge bio-technology, Col. Austin is brought back to life with extraordinary abilities, making him the world’s first truly bionic man.
Wahlberg said in a statement, “I’m thrilled to assemble ‘The Six Billion Dollar Man’ for the big screen with the likes of Bob Weinstein and Damián Szifron. We look forward to creating a Steve Austin for the 21st century.”
The supervising team for The Weinstein Company / Dimension are Matthew Signer, Executive Vice President of Production and Creative Affairs, and Keith Levine, Senior Vice President of Production and Development.
“Writing the screenplay was such a fantastic ride and embarking on this journey with Mark, Bob and Stephen to take this story to a whole new level is simply spectacular,” Szifron told Variety. “Growing up, these kind of films left an indelible mark on me and now it feels so good to be making one.”
