LOS ANGELES, July 6 (UPI) — Actress Rose McGowan penned a guest column for The Hollywood Reporter in defense of Renee Zellweger.

McGowan’s piece was a response to a June 30 article by Variety’s new movie critic, Owen Gleiberman, titled “Renee Zellweger: If she no longer looks like herself has she become a different actress?” Gleiberman wrote about the controversy surrounding Zellweger’s cosmetic surgery after seeing the trailer for her new movie “Bridget Jones‘s Baby.”

After Zellweger walked a red carpet event in 2014 with a noticeably different look, comments began to roll in on her decision to have the procedure.

Now with the trailer for the new “Bridget Jones” film out, Zellweger is once again facing criticism for her makeover.

McGowan, who has been vocal in social activism and in defense of her own cosmetic surgery, took issue with Gleiberman’s comments and wrote a piece published Wednesday admonishing him and supporting Zellweger.

“What you are doing is vile, damaging, stupid and cruel. It also reeks of status quo white-male privilege,” she wrote.
