LOS ANGELES, Feb. 19 (UPI) — New Line Cinema has announced the development of a sequel to their hit earthquake disaster film, San Andreas.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the studio has given the greenlight to the sequel after the original grossed over $473 million worldwide.

The film is currently being scripted by Neil Widener and Gavin James will reunite its star Dwayne Johnson with producer Beau Flynn and Brad Peyton who directed the original.

Released in 2015, San Andreas followed search-and-rescue pilot Ray Gaines (Johnson) as he reunited with his estranged wife Emma (Carla Gugino) to save their missing daughter Blake (Alexandra Daddario) as a series of severe earthquakes ravaged Los Angeles and San Francisco.

The sequel is being reported as expanding into the Ring of Fire, an area that circles the Pacific Ocean that is lined with volcanoes and home to the vast majority of the world’s earthquakes.

Gugino and Daddario are also set to return along with Paul Giamatti who played the seismologist who predicted the earthquake.
