LOS ANGELES, Aug. 25 (UPI) — Scott Eastwood is confronting the death of his late ex-girlfriend, Jewel Brangman.

Brangman’s dad, Alexander Brangman, told People that the 30-year-old actor phoned him Tuesday after discussing his daughter’s death in the September/October issue of GQ Australia.

“He said ‘I didn’t reach out [before] because I didn’t know what to say,'” Alexander revealed. “He was very apologetic.”

“When things are low, I choose to rise,” he said of his choice to forgive Eastwood. “I was angry — but everybody grieves differently. You know, he’s a kid, too. I didn’t know what his grieving process is — I’d like to get to know more of what he went through.”

Eastwood had admitted to GQ that he never called Alexander after Brangman’s death in 2014. The aspiring model died at age 26 in a minor car crash after a defective airbag in her rental vehicle exploded.

“I had never lost someone I had been really intimate with, you know, like in that way, in a relationship,” Eastwood had shared. “I think that really affected me in a way that… I don’t know. Maybe it’s made it harder for me to date.”

Alexander said Eastwood and Brangman were “very involved” during their two-year relationship but had been broken up for several months at the time of of his daughter’s death. He and the actor reportedly made plans to meet in person and continue the conversation.
