ROME, Dec. 29 (UPI) — Tennis star Serena Williams and Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian confirmed Thursday they became engaged while vacationing in Rome.
Williams initially announced the engagement in a poem on Reddit’s “r/isaidyes” forum, detailing the proposal at the Rome restaurant where she and Ohanian first met.
“At the same table we first met by chance this time he made it not by chance but by choice,” she wrote. “Down on one knee he said 4 words and r/isaidyes.”
A spokesperson for Ohanian confirmed that the couple were engaged during the trip to Rome, CNN reported.
Ohanian also shared Williams’ post to Facebook with the caption “She said yes” and left a comment expressing his joy.
“And you made me the happiest man on the planet,” he wrote.
