LOS ANGELES, March 15 (UPI) — “Sausage Party” released a first, red band trailer starring Seth Rogen on Monday.

The preview sees Frank (Rogen), his fellow sausage Carl (Jonah Hill) and his love interest, the hot dog bun Brenda (Kristen Wiig), attempt to escape their fate after discovering an ugly truth — humans eat food.

Michael Cera co-stars as the sausage Barry, with Bill Hader as guacamole and an old bottle of liquor. James Franco, Danny McBride, Paul Rudd, Nick Kroll and Edward Norton are among the other stars with voice roles.

“It’s been a very hard dance,” Rogen previously told HitFix of the animated movie. “There was a moment we realized, ‘Man, it kind of has to be as good as a Pixar movie.’ That was a tough thing to reconcile. We’ve worked on it incredibly hard.”

Rogen co-wrote and produced the film with longtime friend Evan Goldberg, with whom he previously collaborated on “Superbad” and “Pineapple Express.” Greg Tiernan and Conrad Vernon co-directed the movie, which opens in theaters Aug. 12.

The trailer contains scenes and language not appropriate for children.
