NEW YORK, Oct. 26 (UPI) — BBC Worldwide North America says it has partnered with Fathom Events to briefly release the TV movie Sherlock: The Abominable Bride in about 500 U.S. theaters.

Starring Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman, the one-off program will be shown on the big screen in select locations Jan. 5-6.

The late 19th century-set film is to premiere on Masterpiece on PBS stations in the United States, as well as on the BBC in the United Kingdom, on Jan. 1.

“Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman return as Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson in [Sherlock,] the acclaimed modern retelling of Arthur Conan Doyle‘s classic stories,” a synopsis said. “But now, our heroes find themselves in 1890s London. Beloved characters Mary Morstan, Inspector Lestrade and Mrs. Hudson also turn up at 221b Baker Street.”

The fourth season of the series Sherlock, which returns Cumberbatch and Freeman’s sleuths to their usual contemporary London, is to start shooting in the spring.
