LOS ANGELES, July 29 (UPI) — Singer JoJo says she once resorted to extreme measures to lose weight.

The 25-year-old recording artist revealed in an interview with PopSugar that she took supplements and used injections to shed pounds fast after her previous record label told her to lose weight.

“I was under a lot of pressure with a company I was at previously and they wanted me to lose weight fast,” JoJo recalled. “So they got me with a nutritionist and had me, like, on all these supplements, and I was injecting myself.”

“[It’s] a common thing ‘the girls’ do all the way,” she said of the injections. “It makes your body only need certain calories, so I ate 500 calories a day. It was the most unhealthy thing I’ve ever done.”

JoJo was struggling with label issues at the time that kept her from releasing new albums. The singer admitted she tried the supplements and injections in the hopes her record would be released.

“I felt like, ‘If I don’t do this, my album won’t come out,'” she explained. “Which it didn’t! So it’s not like it even worked!”

JoJo last released “The High Road” in 2006, which debuted at No. 3 on the Billboard 200 and includes the single “Too Little Too Late.” She is returning to music with the new single, “[Expletive] Apologies,” featuring Wiz Khalifa, which appears on her forthcoming album “Mad Love.”

“I love being in the studio,” the singer told Billboard in December while discussing the new record. “We experimented with a lot of different things [for the album].”
