LOS ANGELES, April 18 (UPI) — Stana Katic will depart ABC series “Castle” after Season 8.

The network confirmed the 37-year-old actress will leave the police drama after an eight-season run as Det. Kate Beckett in a statement to news outlets Monday.

“Kate Beckett has been a beloved character on our hit series Castle for the past eight years. We are grateful for Stana Katic’s talent and dedication to the series and we hope to continue our relationship,” ABC said.

Tamala Jones, who portrays Dr. Lanie Parish, will also depart the drama after Season 8. The network said it’s “grateful” Jones was a part of “Castle,” calling the 41-year-old actress an “integral part of the series.”

“I just wanted to thank you all @ABCNetwork Cast & Crew & Castle Fandom. It’s been an amazing ride! Family is what we are & I love u all!!!” Jones tweeted in response to the news.

Sources told The Hollywood Reporter Katic was unhappy on the series and had repeated conflict with co-star Nathan Fillion, who plays Richard Castle. Neither ABC nor the actress offered an explanation for her departure.

“Rather than distract from what was an amazing experience I would just like to say that I’m very grateful to ABC for giving me the opportunity to be a part of a much beloved show. Thank you to the fans,” Katic said in a statement to E! News.

Castle will air its Season 8 finale May 16 and has yet to be renewed for Season 9. Sources told Deadline the series may be renewed for a final, abbreviated season starring Fillion.
